Taikoo Place Redevelopment Project

The existing Taikoo Place at Quarry Bay will get a HK$15 billion (US$1.9 billion) makeover to further transform into a major business and commercial hub. Two new triple Grade A office towers, along with the existing eight office towers in Taikoo Place, will be linked by elevated air-conditioned walkways and surrounded by landscaped gardens with cascading water features and additional al fresco dining areas.

EYEING LEED PLATINUM
Each of the two triple Grade-A office towers will have a gross floor area of 1 million square feet. The first building, named One Taikoo Place, is expected to be completed in 2018, followed by Two Taikoo Place in 2021. Both office towers will be built to the highest standards of sustainability, targeting LEED Platinum ratings. All floors of One Taikoo Place are designed with large 3-metre wide curtain wall window panels, offering panoramic views of Victoria Harbour.

HUGE GREEN SPACES
Another outstanding feature is the introduction of two gardens—Taikoo Square and Taikoo Garden—designed by award-winning London-based landscape architectural firm Gustafson Porter (famed for the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park). The two gardens will provide 69,000 square feet (6,400 square metres) of open space —equivalent in size to Statue Square in Central—for the enjoyment of the community.

The huge green space—a rare feature in Hong Kong’s high-density commercial areas—will form part of the larger fabric of Taikoo Place. This will include water features, pathways, and trees and foliage native to the region. Via Fiori, the popular landscaped area facing One Island East, will be renamed ‘Taikoo Park’ and will continue to host outdoor events, offering entertainment for the community as it does now.

EASY CONNECTIVITY
In addition, Paris-based design company Hugh Dutton Associés has been commissioned to design an elevated walkway system that will seamlessly link the buildings in Taikoo Place, offering easy connectivity for the office community and the public.

“Taikoo Place is already home to a significant number of multinational corporations, and with our ongoing investments, we aspire to build an open and vibrant mixed-use community here which will reshape the city’s office landscape,” said Don Taylor, director of office at Swire Properties. “The redevelopment will not only elevate Taikoo Place’s status as a world-class commercial hub, but it will provide an attractive alternative to Central,” he continued.

Supporting the new features, there will be continued infusion of dining and retail establishments in the district, including a wide range of cafés and restaurants around Taikoo Place and Cityplaza.
