Hyatt Place, located at the centre of the emerging Shanghai downtown area, inherits the tradition of Shanghai’s upper-class society and infuses the style of Jiang Zhe culture into a modern space.
The lobby on the ground floor is designed with the philosophy of ‘less is more’. Soft and delicate light cast upon dark wood, grey cotton and grain marble walls create a vertical distribution of stripes that look like a flowing water curtain.
Tall and straight outlines and large areas of mosaic stone parquet create an elegant atmosphere in the reception lobby. Orange-red carpet re-expresses the bustling city scenery along Huangpu River in an artistic way, while trees against the beige cotton wall creates a warm and natural scene at the waiting area.
The unique skylight design at bar and lounge area are inspired from the windows of Shanghai’s old dwelling houses, blurring the interior–exterior boundaries. Sun visors are organically displayed to re-filter and refract sunlight from different angles.
The mix of dark copper, wood, light-coloured cotton and white cortex fabric add elegance into these spaces, while scattered art paintings, white ceramic artworks and flowers present the solemn dignity and nobleness of old Shanghai.
Each functional space enhances the tension and agility of the venue with the use of partitions or soft furnishings, such as the acrylic shelves that create a quieter place for reading and thinking between the lounge area and library.
The swimming pool area continues the large skylight design, with one side of the wall connecting to vibrant urban scenes.
The guestrooms express the Eastern charm in Western style, with simple and elegant furniture for a relaxed and comfortable space. — Construction+ Online
