As a non-profit organisation that strives to promote the standards and developments of sustainable buildings in Hong Kong since 2009, the Hong Kong Green Building Council Limited (HKGBC) has recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.
The HKGBC is leading Hong Kong to become a world’s exemplar of Green building development, and aims to raise its awareness by developing practical solutions for the city’s subtropical built environment of high-rise and high-density urban areas.
In celebration, the HKGBC has invited important stakeholders in Hong Kong’s Green building development over the past 10 years to share their views and visions.
Wong Kam-sing, Secretary for the Environment, was the former Vice Chairman of the HKGBC and has had a special bond with the Council for many years. Needless to say, Wong is now playing a key role in driving new government policies to combat climate change, save energy, reduce waste and much more.
“I’m glad that HKGBC promotes the Green Building Week in Hong Kong. As far as I can understand, it’s probably the best of its kind in Asia,” Wong commented.
As a Platinum Patron Member of the HKGBC since its establishment, Swire Properties was one of the founding members of the steering committee for developing HK-BEAM back in 1995. Guy Bradley, Chief Executive of Swire Properties, said, “We’re really grateful for the contribution that HKBC has made in this past 10 years and we look forward to working together through 2030 and beyond.”
Lastly, with its strong foothold in Hong Kong, Chinachem Group has dedicated much effort and resources to sustainability in recent years, and has been a Platinum Patron Member of the HKGBC since 2018. Donald Choi, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Chinachem Group, is one of the most supportive and active members of the HKGBC’s various schemes and activities.
