Construction Industry “Anti-epidemic Fund” registration platforms launched

On 24 February 2020, the Construction Industry Council (CIC) launched the Construction Industry “Anti-epidemic Fund” (the Fund) provided by the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, which accepts applications from eligible registered construction workers via “Safety App” mobile application and online applications from eligible construction related companies.

“From today onwards, each eligible registered worker can apply for a one-off subsidy of HKD1,500 through this mobile application in a simple and efficient way, which assists them in purchasing personal protective equipment to maintain good personal hygiene,” said Ir Albert Cheng, Executive Director of the CIC.

The CIC urges the industry to strengthen awareness of epidemic prevention. Workers and construction related companies join hands to put effort in maintaining hygiene. Eligible consultants, contractors, registered specialist trade contractors and registered subcontractors can apply for a one-off subsidy of HKD50,000 to enhance workplace cleanliness and sanitation for epidemic prevention.

The eligibility of this Fund application is the applicants must be registered construction workers, and during the period from 1 January 2019 to 19 February 2020 had daily attendance records in the submission by principal contractors under the Construction Workers Registration Ordinance (Cap. 583).

The application period starts from 24 February 2020 to 31 August 2020. Eligible workers can download the App, fill in the information and easily upload all required documents to apply. After receiving and verifying all the information, the CIC will directly deposit the subsidy into the applicant’s bank account through auto-payment within two to three weeks.
