The Construction Industry Council (CIC) announced that the CIC joins the industry to launch a campaign to support construction workers inflicted by the epidemic of novel coronavirus.

Themed Construction Industry Caring Campaign — Fight against Novel Coronavirus, this campaign was launched on 17 February 2020. It will provide monetary assistance and support to registered workers who are infected with the novel coronavirus or quarantined due to the disease.

“The novel coronavirus epidemic in the Mainland and Hong Kong is affecting the construction industry. Developers, governmental works departments, construction companies, subcontractors, material suppliers and frontline workers are at difficult times, but still workers suffer the most as they are usually employed on a daily wage basis, and now they are facing under-employment,” said Chan Ka-kui, Chairman of the CIC.

In order to support workers affected by the epidemic, the CIC and the industry have set up a fundraising exercise with a target of HKD20 million. The intended beneficiary is mainly the registered construction workers in Hong Kong who need monetary assistance.

In addition, the campaign will provide caring support to applicants and their immediate families to purchase protective materials and basic necessities to be distributed to the affected registered workers and their families. — Construction+ Online
