CIC campaign granted over HKD1 million allowance to support workers

After its launching last month, the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and the industry distributed the second round of anti-epidemic materials on 6 March 2020  under the “Construction Industry Caring Campaign — Fight against Novel Coronavirus” campaign.

“Since the establishment of the Campaign, the CIC has received over 1,200 enquiries on applications, and the CIC has already approved over HKD1 million allowance to workers who are being quarantined,” said Mr Tsang Ting-fat, Member of the Campaign’s Management Committee and the Honorary Chairman of Hong Kong Bar-Bending Contractors Association.

With the first round of distribution of anti-epidemic products through the campaign, a total of 550,000 masks and 50,000 bottles of hand sanitisers are distributed to frontline workers via different contractors and construction companies so as to show our care and combat this epidemic. Those anti-epidemic products were distributed to contractors and construction companies at CIC – Zero Carbon Park.

“The epidemic has caused a huge impact on the construction industry. The interrupted supply chain makes the industry suffer from work suspension and thus affecting the livelihood of the frontline workers. I hope the Legislative Council can approve the funding proposals as soon as possible to ensure the sustainable development of the industry,” said Ir Dr Hon LO Wai-kwok, Advisor of the Campaign’s Management Committee and the Member of the Legislative Council. — Construction+ Online
