ASSA ABLOY

As the global leader in door opening solutions, ASSA ABLOY is dedicated to satisfying end-user needs for security, safety and convenience. They offer the world’s largest selection of lock and security solutions that meet the needs of almost any security applications or standards in the world.

ASSA ABLOY was formed in 1994 through the merger of ASSA in Sweden and Abloy in Finland. Since then, ASSA ABLOY has grown from a regional company into an international group with around 47,000 employees and annual sales of SEK71 billion (key figures in 2016).

In the rapidly growing electromechanical security sector, the group has a leading position in areas such as access control, identification technology, entrance automation and hotel security. They operate in mature and emerging markets worldwide, with leading positions in much of Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region.

OPERATIONS
ASSA ABLOY is divided into three regional and two global divisions. The regional divisions manufacture and sell mechanical and electromechanical locks, electronic locks, digital door locks, cylinders and security doors adapted to the local markets’ standards and security requirements. The global divisions manufacture and sell electronic access control, identification products and entrance automation on the global market.

STRATEGIES
The group’s overall focus is to meet the rising demand for increased security with a product-driven offering centred on the customer. This is done through their primary product areas, the traditional segments of mechanical locks and security doors and the fast-growing electromechanical solutions, access control, identification technology and entrance automation areas.

ASSA ABLOY’s strong growth comes from: long-term structural development in mature markets in Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific; increasing demand in emerging markets in Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa and South America; and successes in fast-growing product segments.

The strategic action plans have been divided into three focus areas: market presence, product leadership and cost efficiency.

VISION
Their vision is to be the true world leader, as well as most successful and innovative provider of total door opening solutions; lead in innovation and provide well-designed, convenient, safe and secure solutions that give true added value to customers; and offer an attractive company to employees.

REFERENCE
Hong Kong’s government relocated the Central Government Complex, Legislative Council building to the Tamar building.

CUSTOMER
The building is the Hong Kong government’s administrative and executive hub. The building complex also contains an open space for the public, such as recreational facilities.

CHALLENGES
The project involved advanced specifications, as the different government departments housed on the site have their own security requirements. For example, the door of the chief executive’s office needs to be bulletproof and explosion-proof, while keeping the look of the door neat and stylish.

SOLUTIONS
ASSA ABLOY Hong Kong was chosen to provide a full package of door hardware from locking solutions to escape hardware, including 4,000 units of high-security ASSA (DP440 series) cylinders and 200 sets of Abloy door automatics solutions. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government’s architectural service department supervised the whole design and building project to make sure that all the hardware specified fulfilled the security and safety requirements, as well as architectural regulations in Hong Kong.
