Damai Residence

Damai Residence sits on the edge of the city centre, less than 3 kilometres from the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) Park. The owner wanted to develop this land in the Damai neighbourhood with the idea of creating a high-rise building that blends in the tranquillity of the surrounding environment, efficient floor plates that cater to the contemporary lifestyle and private lobbies for each apartment unit to preserve privacy.

This half-acre site is located near the Petronas Twin Towers with a resplendent view of the city. The single building structure was designed to fit the rectangular plot, which allowed the apartment to be set back quite a distance away from the main road and encircled in verdant landscaping. The block was angled to take full advantage of surrounding views with four sides that are unobstructed. The elongated layout was used to complement an urban lifestyle, which was planned in a linear form that flows from high to low activity areas.

There are 31 units in this low-density development that rises 20 storeys above ground. A double-volume drop-off lobby welcomes residents and visitors. In order to comply with fire safety requirements, the first floor was raised to accommodate firefighting equipment when the need arises and resulted in a high ceiling design for the lobby.

The lifts bring people to their private lift lobbies and into their private units. Tenants living on the higher floors are greeted by the view of the Twin Towers upon entry from the private lobbies and into the living and dining spaces. Every floor consists of two units that are a mirror image of each other. The private lobbies, lifts and staircases separate the 1,938-square-foot units so that there is no shared wall between two independent homes, making them almost similar to bungalows that are elevated above the ground. The kitchen was designed according to the needs of city living and can cater to the requirements of cooking Western and Asian cuisines. The kitchen’s glass partition and bar counter creates a seamless flow to the living and dining spaces, creating a cohesive area for people to move around. On the east and west-facing walls, there are small slit windows that reduce heat gain in the homes and minimise occupant discomfort. Each home also makes use of natural lighting and ventilation.
